Gam zeh ya'avor

A king who collected the most precious jewels in the whole dreamed on night of a magical ring, more valuable than his entire collection.

A ring with such power that when he was sad, it will make him happy;
when he was drunk with power or passion, it will clear his mind and bring him to himself;
and when he was truly joyful, it will deepen his joy.

The king offerred all his advisors a magnificient reward and sent them out to scour the world for the magic ring. Years passed and one by one, they came home empty-handed.

The king's humblest, most devoted servant was the last to give up. As he was trudging back to the palace to admit defeat, he made one last stop at a small dusty shop.

When he sadly told the proprietor what he had been seeking for so long, the old man smiled and said," I have the ring."
Taking a little box down from a high shelf, he refused payment.

"Your King needs this," he said. "Take it as a gift."

The King tore open the box with trembling fingers. Inside was a plain metal ring! Was this the treasure that he had gone to so much trouble for?

Astonished and angry, the King was baout to throw the box across the room when he noticed the Hebrew letters engraved on the ring. He looked more closely.

"Gam zeh ya-avor," it said. "This, too, will pass."

The Kind wore the ring for the rest of his life. Whenever he was sad, or intoxicated, or joyful, he would read those words -- and it worked exactly as he had dreamt.

love this story.
it has always been a source of motivation since i've heard it on the radio a few years back.

when i'm mugging for exams, when i feel like i'm a loser, when my parents fought, when i'm waiting for eBB to come back from confinement, even when i have the monthly intolerable cramps, i'll remind myself of the story to keep me going.

when i'm in eBB's arms, when i have lunch with grandma, when i look at myself- personable and healthy, i think of the story to keep me grounded and cherish what i have.

so, whenever you feel as if the whole world is coming down on you and that you're gonna suffocate under all that crap,

remember: This, too, shall pass.
